Events towards the end of 2024 have highlighted both the urgency and appetite for reforms to strengthen Britain’s democratic integrity.
The news that Elon Musk may use one of his UK-registered companies to funnel record-breaking sums into British politics has provoked a wider debate about the influence of big money in our democracy.
A report by the Inspectorate of Constabulary found that there was inadequate understanding of – or capability to respond to – the online disinformation that helped fuel the summer riots.
And at the beginning of the month, Parliament took the historic decision to vote in favour of Proportional Representation – pushing back against the distrust and alienation First Past the Post is now widely recognised as causing.

We are delighted to have got off to a flying start since the general election – and there is much, much more still to do. 2025 will be a critical year for our campaign. We look forward to working across Parliament and beyond to defend and extend British democracy.
